Google and Reliance Jio are teaming up to launch an affordable 4G phone, according to a latest report from Hindu Business Line. The phone will work exclusively on the Reliance Jio’s 4G network and is expected to be launched by the end of this year.
It will run on Android platform and will come deeply integrated with Jio’s app ecosystem in order to improve the performance of the phone. Google branding will help boost Reliance Jio’s plans to sell cheaper 4G handsets and reach a larger market, added the report. In addition to the smartphone, Google and Reliance Jio both are working together on developing software for the telco smart TV services, which will be launched later this year. Currently, there is no information about the specification of the Google, Jio 4G smartphone.
Google entered the budget smartphone market aimed at emerging countries like India, Brazil with its Android One devices in 2014. The company teamed up with Micromax, Karbonn and others to manufacturing these smartphones. Reliance already sells Android smartphones under its LYF brand with 4G VoLTE.
