Apple has extended the timeframe of buying AppleCare+ insurance at the time of buying iPhones from 60 days to one year. The company has not yet updated information page for AppleCare+. Prior to this, only Macs and Apple TV had the option of adding Apple Care+ within one year of the initial purchase.
If you head to Apple’s eligibility tool and input your serial number from the iPhone’s settings panel, you can see a new purchase option only if you have purchased the device within the last year. The current extension of purchase window is only applicable for iPhones and not for Apple Watch or iPad. AppleCare+ covers everything from accidental damage to hardware issues, extending coverage for two years of original purchase date. It also covers EarPods, Lightning to USB cables, and batteries that retain less than 80 percent of their original capacity.
