Here’s how much it costs to make a Samsung Galaxy S8

Samsung recently launched its flagship Galaxy S8 in India for Rs. 57,900. Analytics firm IHS Markit has now released the actual manufacturing cost of the Galaxy S8 in latest report. It costed Samsung, $307.50 to make the Galaxy S8, according to IHS.

The total bill of materials (BOM) for the 64GB storage variant of the Samsung Galaxy S8 comes out to be around $301.60 and adding manufacturing cost of $5.9, the final amount comes to $307.50. This cost is $43.34 higher than that of the Galaxy S7 and $36.29 higher than the total build cost of the Galaxy S7 Edge. Moreover, the Galaxy S8 also costs more to build than its competitors, according IHS, including the Apple iPhone 7 and Google Pixel XL, said IHS.

The NAND flash memory and DRAM cost $41.50 in total while the 3,000mAh battery costs $4.50. The report also states the price of each component of the device.

While there are new non-hardware features in the Galaxy S8, such as a virtual assistant called Bixby, from a teardown perspective the hardware in the Galaxy S8 and that of the forthcoming new iPhone is expected to be very similar.”
