Last month, Google announced that it will apply neural machine translation for translations of text in Hindi. Now, the company is expanding the neural machine translation for Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Punjabi, Malayalam and Kannada. Introduced in September last year, Neural machine translation translates whole sentences at a time instead of piece by piece.

The translation with Google Translate will be more accurate and easier to understand, especially when translating full sentences. Neural translation uses broader context to help it figure out the most relevant translation, that is rearranged and adjusts to be more like a human speaking with proper grammar.
In addition, Google is bringing neural machine translation to Chrome’s in-built auto translation tool to make full paget translations more accurate. At present Google offers translation to entire web page.

Moving on, the Google Search app for iOS and Android is being upgraded with neural machine translation supporting translation between English and aforementioned Indian regional languages.
Next up, Google will now automatically add translations to local reviews on Google Maps, both on mobile and desktop. With this update, reviews – from restaurants to cafes or hotels – will appear in users own language. Finally, Google in collaboration with the Oxford University Press is bringing Rajpal & Sons Hindi dictionary online. This supports transliteration so you don’t even need to switch to a Hindi keyboard. When you search search for a word it will instantly show the meaning and dictionary definitions on the search results page, including English translations.
