Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones are the first smartphones to support its Daydream View VR headset for an immersive VR experience. Later the Moto Z and Moto Z Force smartphones received Android Nougat update that added Daydream support. At the CES, Asus introduced Zenfone AR smartphone, which is the first smartphone to support both Google Tango and Daydream.
Earlier this year Huawei Mate 9 Pro, Porsche Design Mate 9 and ZTE Axon 7 smartphones were confirmed to get Daydream support with Android Nougat update. At the I/O 2017 Google announced that Samsung’s flagship S8 and S8+ smartphones will get Daydream support with a software update this summer. It also said that LG’s next flagship phone, which will launch later this year will be Daydream-ready.
“Daydream-ready phones are built for VR with high-resolution displays, ultra smooth graphics, and high-fidelity sensors for precise head tracking,” Google had said earlier.
Google already announced that Samsung, HTC, LG, Xiaomi, Huawei, ZTE, Asus, and Alcatel as initial partners for building their own Daydream VR headsets. It also teased Huawei Daydream VR. At yesterday’s event Google announced standalone Daydream VR headsets will be developed by HTC VIVE and Lenovo and arrive later this year.
