Facebook is bringing closed captioning to Facebook Live in order make it easier for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. This will improve the live video experience for people with such disability. Publishers can now create and stream closed captions for their Live videos.
If your captioning settings are turned on, you will automatically see closed captions on Live broadcasts when they are available. It is already possible to add captions to non-live videos when uploading them to Facebook Pages and publishers can use Facebook’s speech recognition service to automatically generate captions for videos on their Pages. The latest update is a welcome addition from Facebook.
Facebook said in a blog post,
By enabling publishers to include closed captions with their Live broadcasts, we hope more people can now participate in the exciting moments that unfold on Live.
According to the social network, Facebook Live broadcasts has grown by more than 4x, and 1 in 5 Facebook videos is a Live broadcast.
Earlier in March, Facebook added Live Video broadcast for desktop.
