A latest report from XDA Developers has revealed detailed specifications of the upcoming smartphones from Google code-named as “Walleye” and “Taimen”. Citing unnamed source, the publication stated that Walleye will become the Pixel 2 and Taimen will become Pixel 2 XL.
The Pixel 2 is expected to sport a 4.97-inch Full HD display similar to the standard model Pixel of 2016. It is tipped to have a “almost identical” design to last year’s 5-inch Pixel smartphone. The phone will be powered by Snapdragon 835 processor, have a 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The Pixel 2 is said to come without a 3.5mm headphone jack and will instead feature stereo speakers. Google’s SVP for hardware Rick Osterloh recently confirmed that the Pixel 2 will stay premium.
Up next is the larger model from Google – Pixel XL 2 that will fall in a premium category. The phone is tipped to sport a 5.99-inch display with a 1440p OLED panel by LG and will feature smaller bezels. The Nexus 6P had a 5.7-inch display and the Nexus 6 had a 6-inch display. The latest Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ flagships sport 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch displays respectively.
It will also be powered by Snapdragon 835 processor, have a 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It has been rumored earlier that Google might release three phones powered by Snapdragon 835. The Pixel XL 2 will sport glass and metal back similar to last year’s Pixel XL, but this time the glass won’t cover the fingerprint sensor. Finally, the phone will come with a 3.5mm headphone jack and feature a single rear camera.
The Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 smartphones are expected to be announced in October this year.
