Renowned KGI analyst Ming Chi-Kuo has revealed a number of predictions for the upcoming iPhones. Kuo has already mentioned a couple of predictions for this year’s iPhone models.
- iPhone 8 will have highest screen-to-body ratio
Kuo reiterates the prediction stating that Apple will release three iPhones this year – 5.2-inch or 5.8-inch iPhone depending on whether a bezel-less OLED is used. On the other hand 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch version will have an LCD display. The OLED iPhone will adorn a full-screen design, with the highest screen-to-body ratio of any smartphone currently available worldwide.
2. No Touch ID fingerprint recognition
The analyst says iPhone 8 will not support in-screen fingerprint scanning and the Touch ID will also not be embedded under the display.
We predict the OLED model won’t support fingerprint recognition, reasons being: (1) the full-screen design doesn’t work with existing capacitive fingerprint recognition, and (2) the scan-through ability of the under-display fingerprint solution still has technical challenges.
3. 3D sensing facial recognition support
OLED iPhone will support 3D sensing for facial recognition and improved selfie quality. Earlier today, Bloomberg also reported that Apple will replace the Touch ID fingerprint scanning in favor of 3D sensing for facial recognition.
4. No more 32GB iPhones
Kuo says Apple will chuck the 32GB models and all the three new models will all come with 64GB and 256GB storage options.
5. All iPhones will have Lightning Port
Earlier reports had stated that Apple might ditch the Lightning Port for Type-C USB. Now, the analyst predicts the Lightning Port will stay and Apple might add an “embedded USB-C power delivery”.
The new iPhones are expected to feature iris scanner, wireless charging and come with other major changes as it is Apple’s 10th Anniversary.
