Google has finally launched Motion Still app for Android. Introduced for iOS last year, the app uses video stabilization technology to freeze the background into a still photo or create sweeping cinematic pans to remove shakiness for creating smooth GIFs. You can simply tap the camera button that will automatically capture a three-second clip as a looping GIF.
Users can share their Motion Stills as looping GIFs or videos directly. They can even create movies by combining clips with a simple swipe to the right. There is a “Fast Forward” mode which is similar to Microsoft’s Hyperlapse. You can change the speed of playback (from 1x to 8x) after recording. The app allow you to browse your recorded clips in a stream, or flip through them one-by-one and watch them auto-play.
Google says it has redesigned the existing iOS video processing pipeline to use a streaming approach that processes each frame of a video as it is being recorded. Motion Stills is available for smartphones running Android 5.1 and later.
