Twitter tests $99 subscription program to promote tweets

Twitter has started testing a premium subscription program that will promote accounts and tweets for $99 per month. The micro-blogging site is currently offering this new program to only selected users via an invite.

The main idea is to automatically promote your account’s tweets onto people’s timelines that don’t follow your account. The new program will affect existing Twitter ad accounts. In order to participate in this private beta program your previous ads account will no longer be accessible. The program is still being tested and is intended for use by small and medium-sized businesses.

Twitter wrote in a blog post,

Instead of creating and optimizing separate Twitter Ads campaigns yourself, this program will do the heavy lifting. You just need to continue using Twitter as you normally do — Tweeting updates, links, and media that you want a larger audience to see. Then, the promotion of your Tweets will be automated.

Twitter’s 328 million user base remained unchanged while revenue was down 5% in Q2 2017. Advertising revenue also dropped 8% on an annual basis. The micro-blogging site has been struggling to garner revenue as well as new users since a long time. It must be noted that the new $99 subscription plan is different from Twitter’s Promoted Tweets, which are specific and generally about a single idea or product.
