Facebook is said to be working on video chat device that will sport a 13-15 inch touchscreen, wide-angle camera and microphones, according to a report from the Bloomberg.
Facebook is considering to use Android OS and a 360 degree camera for the device. In addition, the social network could also add some AI tech into the device. The latest news comes a day after Facebook acquired AI assistant startup Ozlo to boost its conversational AI and Facebook Messenger team. Considering the specifications and features, it looks like Facebook’s video chat device will compete with Apple HomePod and Amazon Echo. The device is being developed by Facebook’s research lab Building 8.
Last month, Facebook filed a patent at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a “modular electromechanical device” that would allow users to easily swap existing components. The devices are likely to be announced at next year’s F8 developer conference
