Facebook is testing Stories for its desktop client. The social network confirmed with TechCrunch that a wider launch of Facebook Stories for Web is coming soon.
Launched for Facebook’s mobile app in March this year, Stories is a Snapchat clone that lets you share photos and videos that disappear after a day. The desktop version of the feature allows people to view friends’ Stories from their browsers. According to a screenshot shared by TechCrunch, Facebook Stories will be placed on the right corner of the News Feed.
Stories has become buzzword following Instagram’s success with Instagram Stories. Facebook also rolled out Messenger Day which is similar to Instagram Stories. Soon WhatsApp joined the clan with WhatsApp Status which currently has 250 million users.
The need for Facebook to launch Stories for its mobile app can still be justified as it doesn’t want to lose its audience and increase the user engagement on its platform. However, it remains to be seen how many of its over 2 billion users will actually use Facebook Stories on desktop.
