This week, Nokia announced flagship phone Nokia 8, Asus launched ZenFone Zoom S and announced ZenFone 4 Pro, ZenFone 4, ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro and ZenFone 4 Selfie. Let’s take a look at all the launches and announcements that made news this week.
HMD Global announced the flagship Nokia 8 smartphone at an event in London. It packs a 5.3-inch Quad HD display with sculpted Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, is powered by an Octa-Core Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform and runs on Android 7.1.1 (Nougat) with promised monthly Android security update and will also get the Android O update.
The Nokia 8 comes in Polished Blue, Tempered Blue, Steel and Polished Copper colors, is priced at 599 Euros (US$ 700 / Rs. 44,990 approx.) and will start shipping in early September globally and is expected to launch in India in early October.
ASUS announced the Zenfone 4 series at an event in Taiwan. This includes Zenfone 4 and Zenfone 4 Pro with dual rear cameras and the Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro and the Zenfone 4 Selfie with dual front-facing cameras. All these have a unibody design, 120-degree wide-angle lens for the front camera and a fingerprint sensor on the front
Coolpad announced Cool M7 mid-range smartphone in China. It packs a 5.5-inch 1080p screen, is powered by an Octa-Core Snapdragon 625 Mobile Platform, runs on Android 7.1 (Nougat) with new JUI that has a dock that , has a 12-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, phase-detection auto-focus (PDAF) for quick focus in 0.03 seconds, dual-tone LED flash and a 13-megapixel front-facing camera.
The Coolpad Cool M7 comes in Matte Black and Blue colors, is priced at 2699 yuan (US$ 404 / Rs. 25,900 approx.), is available for order from jd.com and goes on sale in China from August 26.
Micromax launched Evok Dual Note, the company’s latest smartphone in the Evok series with dual rear cameras, as expected. It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with Sony IMX258 sensor along with a 5-megapixel secondary camera to capture depth information for blur effect in shots. It also has a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with soft LED flash.
The Micromax Evok Dual Note comes in Gold and Prussian Blue (4GB RAM version only) colors, starts at Rs. 9999 for the 3GB RAM version and will go on sale exclusively through Flipkart starting from August 22 midnight.
Chinese ODM Topwise Communication launched Comio C1, S1 and P1 smartphones in the country, as it had promised. All these phones run Android 7.0 (Nougat) and have 4G VoLTE support. The S1 has a slim metal unibody design and the P1 packs a 5000mAh battery. Both these have a fingerprint sensor.
ASUS launched ZenFone Zoom S smartphone in India with a dual rear cameras. It packs a 12MP primary camera with IMX362 1/2.55″ sensor with large 1.4µm pixels, f/1.7-aperture, 25mm wide-angle main lens along with a dedicated 59mm, 12MP zoom camera with an 2.3x true optical zoom and 12x of total zoom. It also has Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) for photos and 4K videos. It also has ASUS 0.03s TriTech+ autofocus for quick focus in 0.03 seconds with second-generation laser autofocus and subject-tracking autofocus for both photos and videos.
The ASUS ZenFone Zoom S comes in Navy Black and Glacier Silver colors, is priced at Rs. 26,999 and is available exclusively from Flipkart.
Swipe Technologies launched Elite 4G, the company’s latest budget 4G smartphone with VoLTE support. It has a 5-inch display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection, is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, has a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, but it still runs on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow).
The Swipe Elite 4G comes in Black, Gold and and Grey colors, is priced at Rs. 3999 and is available exclusively from Flipkart.
Acer launched Predator Helios 300 gaming laptop in India. It sports 15.6-inch Full HD IPS display and features matte black chassis with red accents. It can be configured with 7 th Gen Intel Core i7 (7700HQ) or i5 processor (7300HQ). The laptop comes with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or 1050Ti GPU. Acer Predator Helios is priced starting at Rs. 1,29,999 and will be available exclusively on Flipkart starting August 17.
Garmin launched a number of smartwatches and fitness trackers in India. The company introduced Forerunner 935, Fēnix 5 series of smart-watches and two new vivo activity trackers- vívofitjr and vívosmart 3.

HTC launched its flagship U11 smartphone in India back in June for Rs. 51990 in Brilliant Black and Amazing Silver colors. This week it has launched the Solar Red color variant of the phone in the country. The HTC U11 Solar Red variant is now available for pre-order from HTC eStore online and will ship starting from August 26th.
Panasonic launched Eluga I2 Active that has a 5-inch HD display, is powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6737 processor, runs on Android 7.0 (Nougat), has a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It has a metal body, but has huge bezels and doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor.
The Panasonic Eluga I2 Active comes in Gold, Rose Gold and Grey colors and is priced at Rs. 7,190 for the 1GB RAM version and the 2GB RAM version costs Rs. 7,990.
