Apple said to replace the home button with gesture control on the iPhone 8

Apple is expected to schedule the iPhone 8 event on September 12. We have already read rumors and reports about Apple ditching the home button on iPhone 8. Now, Bloomberg has corroborated the reports by stating that it has seen images of the new iPhones, which will replace the physical home button with a thin bar at the bottom of the screen and gesture controls.

The iPhone 8 will sport a thin software bar at the bottom of the screen and you can unlock the phone by dragging it in the middle. According to the report, gesture controls will allow users to multitask with multiple apps and return to the home screen. Apple is also tipped to replace the Touch ID fingerprint authentication in favor of a new 3D facial recognition technology. The facial recognition sensor is said to be present along with the earpiece and front-facing camera in a cutout at the top of the screen.

Apple will implement a dock  on the iPhone 8, similar to the one on iPads running iOS. The status bar will split into left and right areas, with the former will show the time while the latter will display the cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity indicators and remaining battery capacity. The iPhone 8 will most certainly sport an OLED display while the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7 will boast LCD displays.

Giving more information about the design of the iPhone, the report says it will include rounded edges for the screen, a longer power button, all glass design and stainless steel edges with antenna cuts on the corners. The new iPhones are expected to feature wireless charging and come with other major changes as it is Apple’s 10th Anniversary.
