Sony is one such brand that stays most active on their forum providing a helping hand for their developers community. The company even launched Open Devices Program earlier where developers get to play around and experiment with the custom ROMs on supported Sony phones. And, for the same supported smartphones, Sony releases AOSP device configurations directly on GitHub along with binaries.
Following the same tradition even this year, Sony has released the AOSP for Android 8.0 Oreo, which is now available on Sony’s Open Devices program. This gives new developers access to all the available tools and guides to build their own custom ROM and try it out and this will also help the company with the final OTA project.
The list of smartphones that have got the AOSP support are
- Xperia XZ Premium
- Xperia XZs
- Xperia XZ
- Xperia X Performance
- Xperia X
- Xperia X Compact
The company has earlier announced that it will be rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo update to Xperia X, Xperia X Performance, Xperia XZ, Xperia X Compact, Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZs, Xperia XA1, Xperia XA1 Ultra, Xperia Touch, Xperia XA1 Plus smartphones which will include a range of new features and additions like the Background limits, Notification channels, snooze notifications, etc.
So, if you are a developer and a user of any Sony smartphone mentioned above, you can take advantage of the binaries and tools to build your own custom AOSP build.
