After confirming that it is actively investigating reports of screen burn-in issue of the Pixel 2 XL, Google today has announced that both the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL come with a two-year warranty at no extra cost. Users who have already purchase the Pixel 2 or the Pixel 2 XL will also be eligible for the two-year warranty.
Since the launch of the latest Google Flagships, the bigger brother; the Pixel XL 2 has been getting complains like the displays not appearing as vibrant as other phones and majorly the screen burn-in on the Pixel 2 XL’s pOLED screen. Google talking about the color saturation issue says that “it intended the Pixel 2 XL to take advantage of the multiple facets of the P-OLED display to produce more natural colors, but some people prefer more saturated colors.”
Though Google has included the Vivid mode to boost colors by 10% in the display settings, based on the feedback it received, the company will now roll out an OTA update with a new display mode for more saturated color in the next few weeks.
Regarding the screen Burn-in issue, Google says that the Pixel 2 XL display shows that its decay characteristics are similar to OLED panels used in comparable products. The differential aging (screen burn-in) investigation has confirmed that the issue is in line with that of other premium smartphones and shouldn’t affect normal day-to-day usage. However, the company has mentioned that it will use software updates to optimize the burn-in further.
