OnePlus today introduced its flagship OnePlus 5T smartphone. The upgraded version comes just five months after the launch of OnePlus 5 , which was arguably one of the best smartphones in the market. Having said that, the OnePlus 5T is a mid-cycle refresh, offering a better display, improved camera, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, facial recognition technology and much more. What has changed in the successor? Let’s check it out.
Visually speaking, the OnePlus 5T marks a pretty big overhaul on the display front, as it sports a 6.01-inch Full HD+ Optic AMOLED Display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, 80.5% screen-to-body ratio. In this iteration, the bezels have been trimmed down comparatively and its almost absent on the sides as well.
OnePlus 5T is benefited with Intelligent Pixel Technology, which was first implemented in the OnePlus 3T’s front camera. This tech merges 4 pixels into one, reducing noise in low-light environments and enhancing the clarity. The selfie shooter remains unchanged with a 16MP camera with Sony IMX371 sensor, 1.0μm pixel size and f/2.0 aperture.
Another addition to the OnePlus 5T is the implementation of Advanced Facial Recognition. Alongside the fingerprint sensor, users can unlock their phone just by looking at their device. This feature uses over 100 facial feature identity points to securely unlock the smartphone.
The display is larger than its predecessor incorporating on-screen buttons , so it doesn’t have a home button and ceramic fingerprint sensor has been moved to the back in an attempt to make room for the display. Interestingly, both OnePlus 5 and 5T features the same 401ppi density.
The company has tweaked the camera of the OnePlus 5T to enhance camera performance in low-light and clarity. In fact, the OnePlus 5T features the same 16-megapixel primary main camera with Sony IMX398 sensor, f/1.7 aperture, 1.12μm pixel size as its predecessor, but the OnePlus 5’s telephoto lens has been replaced with a 20-megapixel secondary camera equipped with a large f/1.7 aperture that focuses on low-light photography. It uses Sony IMX376K sensor instead of Sony IMX350. You can also see a slight camera bump in the OnePlus 5T.
Placement of Volume rockers on the left along with alert slider, SIM slot and power button on the right and 3.5mm audio jack, USB Type-C port and loudspeaker on the bottom are same in both the phones. It’s plain on the top on both the phones. Due to change in the display, the OnePlus 5T is slightly larger measuring 156.1x75x7.3mm, compared to 154.2 x 74.1 x 7.25 mm on the OnePlus 5.
Leaving aside the differences, the OnePlus 5 and 5T have lots in common. Both the killer flagships are powered by an Octa-Core Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform and run on Android 7.1.1 (Nougat) based Oxygen OS that brings features including Reading Mode.
Both the smartphones share same specs when it comes to RAM and storage. These come in two variants — 6GB/8GB RAM with 64GB/128GB storage based on UFS 2.1, coupled with new 2-lane ROM for faster performance.
The battery also remain untouched as they pack a 3300mAh battery with support for Dash Charge fast charging that promises a day of battery life with half an hour of charge.
Even the price remains the same. The OnePlus 5T costs Rs. 32,999 for the 6GB RAM with 64GB storage version and the top-end 8GB RAM with 128GB version costs Rs. 37,999. It will be available exclusively from Amazon.in starting from 4:30PM on November 21st for Prime customers as well as OnePlus India Online Store and OnePlus experience store in Bangalore as a part of early access sale. It will be available for all from OnePlus India Online Store, Amazon as well as OnePlus Experience Stores from November 28th.
