Google is rolling out an update to the Google App with version number V7.17 that brings redesigned assistant settings, Chrome sync, upcoming Google Lens functionality and much more.
The new update brings redesigned Assistant’s settings which are not too significant, but mostly remove lines that are separating various menu, also indenting other items to better highlight them. Meanwhile, settings in the Google app also adopted a light navigation bar compared to the dark in the previous build.
One biggest change in the Assistant settings is renaming the “Shared devices” to “Voice Match.” The Voice Match name first surfaced at the Pixel event back in October indicating Assistant device’s ability to recognize a user’s voice. However, the Assistant settings page still lists that are using Voice Match, but adds the ability to retrain your voice and invite others to train theirs.
The latest update also teases the upcoming Google Lens translation functionality for signs and other print, as well as a “Remember this” feature. Another is its ability to import captured images to Google Keep. The new Chrome icon and string codes reveal that Google is working on some sync feature with Chrome for viewing web pages for Google App.
Recent updates to the Google App notes that the built-in podcast player with features like offline downloading, the latest string code reveals that a file can’t be deleted while it’s playing, while also noting the presence of explicit tags. The much-anticipated Quartz device which basically is a Google Home device with a display adds more strings and pairing sequence to the new Google App.
Google is on the verge of rolling out Android 8.1 update to Pixel and Nexus device next month, and Google’s apps began targeting API Level 27 referencing the next major version of Google OS; Android P.
