Unicode Consortium today has released version 11.0 beta of the Unicode Standard with over 130 emojis including cupcake, woman/man red-haired, softball, mango and many more. These emojis are likely to be adopted by major vendors like Apple, Google-like always.
As this is beta, there will be changes like additions and removals during the time of final version. The final version of the Unicode 11.0 will be released in Q1 2018.
The emoji characters include a teddy bear, swan, mango, party face, redheads, bagel or kangaroo, badger, infinity, and pirate flag. Unicode is also aiming to implement Emoji with glyphs, for example, it lets you flip the train emoji to face either left or right in case if the feature is given a nod and support from vendors.
Users have been requesting the emoji direction feature for a long time and if this feature goes ahead it is likely to be targeted at emojis that would benefit from it most. Unicode has removed Grinning Face with Letters OK As Eyes, Frowning Pile Of Poo, and Frowning Face With Question Marks As Eyes.
The Unicode 11.0 beta is only available for beta testers and will be rolled out only in 2018.
