Xiaomi Redmi 5A back to original price of Rs. 5999 ahead of Redmi 5 launch

Xiaomi launched the Redmi 5A back in November last year at a competitive price of Rs. 4999. At the launch of the phone, Manu Jain, Vice President and Managing Director, Xiaomi India said that the complimentary price is only for first five million units, post which the phone will be available for Rs. 5,999.

Earlier this year the company said that it sold over 1 million or 10 lakh units of Redmi 5A smartphones in less than a month of sale. Now the company has reverted the price of the phone to original rate on Flipkart as well as Mi.com. The company has not revealed if it has as achieved the 5 million sales goal.

This comes ahead of the launch of Redmi 5 on Wednesday that will replace last year’s Redmi 4 which was launched at a competitive price of Rs. 6999. Xiaomi recently stopped selling the base version of the Redmi 4 to make way for the Redmi 5, which is expected to launch at the same starting price.

It is not clear if Xiaomi wants users to for the more powerful Redmi 5 for a slightly higher price compared to the Redmi 5A by reverting the price back to original.
