Recently the US Govt has laid a total of 7-years ban on ZTE and restricted from using any American Technology. This kind of fate could happen to any foreign brand that is operating in the USA. The best way to stay in the light is to have a backup. Executives at Huawei have also thought of the same as the company is said to be building substitute OS to Android as a backup.
According to the South China Morning Post’s sources, Huawei has been developing its own mobile operating system ever since it and ZTE faced an American investigation in 2012. The company is said to be considering it as an investment for “worst-case scenarios,” said the insider sources. Since the OS is not up to the level of Android in terms of quality and app support, the company hasn’t released it yet.
However, Huawei just said it “has no plans” to launch an in-house OS in the “foreseeable future” which is neither accepting or denying. Even if there is one, there’s no rush to use it. For starters, third-party OS is not something that is unheard of, Samsung has its own version; dubbed Tizen OS, Apple has its own OS X/macOS on Intel for years.
With Huawei having its own HiSilicon chipsets, it definitely has an advantage over its rival if in case it has to drop American products. It goes without saying that losing Google’s services is a huge bargain for a company like Huawei who is desperately trying to enter the US market for a long time now. The third-party OS should come into the picture for Huawei to avoid nightmare situation as an easy substitute but let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.
