Xiaomi India launched Redmi Note 5 Pro in February this year, later in March it was launched as Redmi Note 5 in China with few changes under the hood but Redmi Note 5 Pro and Redmi Note 5 (China variant) share the same codename ‘whyred’. Redmi Note 5 (China variant) was launched with Android Oreo 8.1 based MIUI ROM.
Xiaomi official Jai Mani already confirmed Android Oreo update for Redmi Note 5 Pro but it is yet to receive the update. Earlier this week it rolled out the Oreo update for some users in India, however it was pulled quickly since early version was released accidentally. Now, Xiaomi has released kernel sources for Redmi Note 5 Pro and kernel sources are based on Android Oreo.
Last month, Xiaomi announced a price hike of Rs. 1000 on Redmi Note 5 Pro (4GB+64GB variant) due to 10% import tax imposed by the government and said that it will produce a million units of Redmi Note 5 Pro every month.
Even though the source code is not useful for normal users, it would be helpful for Android developers and tinkerers who would like to create custom software builds. You can download the kernel source from the GitHub source link below.
