Update – August 30: After beta update recently, Xiaomi has finally announced that it will roll out MIUI Global Stable ROM based on Android 8.1 (Oreo) update later this week.
It also said that it will include Face unlocking feature, and it will work for users in Indonesia, India, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam with the update, while other countries will get it later. The update will also include update camera algorithms to improve the image quality.
Earlier: Xiaomi announced Redmi Note 5 along with Redmi Note 5 Pro running on MIUI 9.2 based on Android 7.1 (Nougat) in India back in February. Redmi Note 5 Pro has been the talk of the town since its launch, but Redmi Note 5 (Also called Redmi 5 Plus in global markets including China) is not so popular as compared to Redmi Note 5 Pro. Even the company focused more on Redmi Note 5 Pro as company spokesperson confirmed Android Oreo 8.1 update for Redmi Note 5 Pro but didn’t mention anything regarding Redmi Note 5 update.
Xiaomi recently updated Redmi Note 5 Pro to Android Oreo 8.1 with MIUI 9.5 update which supports full-screen gestures. Redmi Note 5 received MIUI 9.5 update couple of months back but it was based on Android Nougat 7.1.2. As per our sources, Xiaomi is planning to roll out Android Oreo 8.1 for Redmi Note 5 and it is expected to be introduced with MIUI 10 Global ROM update.
MIUI Global Beta ROM users might receive Android Oreo 8.1 based MIUI 10 update on Redmi Note 5 in coming weeks as Xiaomi has already started testing the update internally. However, it may take little longer for Redmi Note 5 Stable ROM users to receive Android Oreo 8.1 update as company has not shared MIUI 10 Global Stable roll out schedule yet, which we are expecting to begin sometime in August or September.
Xiaomi might also update Redmi 5 to Android Oreo 8.1 which was launched in India back in March, Oreo 8.1 update for Redmi 5 is expected to be rolled out with MIUI 10 Global Beta ROM which has not been released for Redmi 5 yet.
Xiaomi has already rolled out MIUI 10 Global Beta update for Mi Mix 2, Mi 6, Redmi Y2/S2, MIUI 10 Global closed Beta testing is going on for various devices including Redmi Note 5 Pro, Redmi Note 5, Redmi Note 4, Mi 5 and Redmi Y1 (also called Redmi Note 5A Prime in global markets including China). As per the shared schedule, all the devices are expected to receive MIUI 10 Global Beta update in a couple of months.
