Motorola confirms Android 9.0 Pie update for range of smartphones


Google released Android 9.0 (Pie) last week for its Pixel devices and also said that it is working with several OEMs to roll out the update. After HTC,  Motorola has confirmed Pie update for its smartphones, including the Moto X4 that was introduced running Android 7.1 (Nougat). The latest Moto Z3 series, Z2 series and the Moto G6 series are getting the update, but the Moto Z, G5 and G5S series are being left out. Even this year’s Moto E5 series are not getting the update.

List of Motorola devices that are confirmed to receive the Android 9.0 (Pie) update:

  • Moto Z3
  • Moto Z3 play
  • Moto Z2 force edition
  • Moto Z2 play
  • Moto X4
  • Moto G6 plus
  • Moto G6
  • Moto G6 play

Android Pie update comes with lots of new features and improvements including navigation gestures, Adaptive Battery that uses machine learning to prioritize system resources for the apps, App Actions, and more.

The Android 9.0 (Pie) update will starting rolling out from the fall 2018, which begins next month. The flagship Moto Z3 should get the update first. Its Moto G series smartphones are yet to receive the stable Android Oreo update, which the company had promised last year.
