Google’s Pixel 3 XL‘s design, internals, and the hardware of it out in the open and the infamous notch is drawing criticism all over and now we know the reason behind it. According to a new report, there will be upgrades to the rear camera, upgraded Visual Core chip which was also a part of previous generation Pixel 2 series, and finally a front-facing dual-camera setup with new ‘Super Selfies’, and more.
If you have been following the leaks closely, you are already aware of the fact that Google is sticking with single rear camera setup for the third straight year despite the industry’s shift towards triple and dual rear cameras. The company appears to be introducing new dual front cameras that will be a part of the notch on the Pixel 3 XL.
The primary goal behind this move is pretty obvious as the company intends to provide better selfies. Google is eager to “see how people like the improved Portrait Mode,” one source said. The company will call this feature “Super Selfies,” and that one of the two front-facing sensors has a wide angle lens. A Russian publication has already got their hands on with the Pixel 3 XL give some insights into some changes coming to the camera app that go hand-in-hand with a new piece of information.
Google Pixel 3 lineup will add “Natural” and “Soft,” as well as a zoom-in ability. There may be other selfie-related features in the works that we aren’t yet aware of. This new dual front-facing setup will be used for improving a security/facial recognition feature. The exact resolution of these camera sensors is yet to be confirmed, but leaks point at the 12.2-megapixel rear camera, while both front-facing sensors are 8.1-megapixel. As for the new Visual Core chip, we don’t have details regarding the improvements, meaning we have to wait for a while before we come to know details in full stretch.
