Fortnite beta for PS4 gets cross-play support for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Android and more

Fortnite today announced an open beta that will allow for cross-platform gameplay, progression, and commerce across PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Mac operating systems. The company will use beta as an opportunity for testing cross-platform.

This move marks a major policy change for SIE, and is in the planning process across the organization to support this change. Sony said that it is also looking to open up its platform in the future and this move could signal support for more of cross-play games on PS4, and either way it’s a major change for PC, PS4, and Xbox users to be able to play games.

On the other hand, Epic games in a Tweet said that it is working on An account-merging feature to combine Battle Royale purchases, coming in November for players who have created two accounts for cross-play. Furthermore, the company is also working on enabling unlinking a console from one Fortnite account and relinking to another Fortnite account. Coming in a few days.

John Kodera, President and CEO SIE said:

We recognize that PS4 players have been eagerly awaiting an update, and we appreciate the community’s continued patience as we have navigated through this issue to find a solution. The first step will be an open beta beginning today for Fortnite that will allow for cross platform gameplay, progression and commerce across PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Mac operating systems.
