Lu Weibing appointed as president of Redmi and Xiaomi VP ahead of Redmi Note 7 event today


Xiaomi is all set to introduce its new Redmi smartphone at an event in China today in a couple of hours. Ahead of the launch, the company introduced the new Redmi by Xiaomi logo yesterday, today the company’s has confirmed that the phone will be called the Redmi Note 7 and the CEO Lei Jun has announced the appointment of Lu Weibing as the president of the new Redmi brand and vice president of Xiaomi.

Lu Weibing was the former president of Gionee and he stepped down  in 2017 and went on to establish a venture to replace the company’s overseas OEM arm. He has  more than 20 years of experience in the mobile phone industry, and the CEO believes that he will take Redmi to heights and make Redmi live up to everyone’s expectations.

As we already know, the smartphone will come with a 6.3-inch waterdrop notch screen with minimal bezels, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and a gradient design. It has dual rear cameras, with a 48-megapixel main camera sensor. The phone’s dimensions is 159.21×75.21×8.1mm and it will come with a 4000mAh (3900mAh minimum) battery.

The phone will likely come with a Sony IMX586 1/2-type (8.0 mm diagonal) sensor. We should know the complete specifications and the price when it goes official in a few hours.
