Google is announcing new features at Google I/O 2019 now, and recently it introduced new features to Google Search, Google Lens and Google Assistant. In similar lines, now, Google has announced new features in Android Q which includes Dark Theme, built-in 5G support, Smart Reply, Focus mode and more.
Support for 5G and Foldable devices
Android Q is now designed to support Foldable devices and becomes the first operating system to support native 5G. Google is providing developers tools to build for faster connectivity, enhance gaming and AR experience on Android Q.
Live Caption feature
The next feature announced by Google is for hearing impaired people. The company is introducing a new ‘Live caption’ feature where with a single tap, it will automatically caption media that’s playing audio on the user’s phone. The captions will start to appear as soon as the speech is detected and this works without the need for Wi-Fi or mobile data.
Smart Reply for notifications
Google has introduced a new ‘Smart Reply’ feature which is now built into the notification system in Android. The new feature will allow any messaging app to suggest replies in notifications and also predicts the user’s next action.
Dedicated Privacy section
With Android Q, Google is bringing a dedicated ‘Privacy section’ under Settings where users can find important controls in a single place. There is a new Location section where users will get more control over the Location data that they share with apps. They can choose to share location data with apps only while they’re in use and additionally, users will receive reminders when an app has their location in the background so that they can decide whether to continue sharing.
Focus Mode
In order to allow users to take better control of their phone’s usage, Google is introducing a new ‘Focus mode’ which is designed to help you focus without distraction.
Users can select the apps that they find distracting and choose to silence them until they come out of Focus mode. Also, Google is also making Family Link part of every device that has Digital Wellbeing. Android Q will also let you do security updates without rebooting the phone.
All these features will be rolling out in Android Q Beta starting today and the Beta version is available for 21 devices from 13 brands, including all Pixel phones.
