HUAWEI Kirin 810 7nm Octa-Core SoC with Mali-G52 GPU, DaVinci NPU announced

HUAWEI just introduced Kirin 810 SoC, successor of last year’s Kirin 710 that powers several mid-range smartphones. It also detailed some features of the processor. It uses 7nm processor technology, similar to the Kirin 980 flagship SoC, and the first for a mid-range SoC. This has two ARM Cortex-A76 bigger cores clocked at 2.27GHz and the other siz smaller ARM Cortex-A55 cores are clocked at 1.88GHz. It has ARM Mali-G52 MP6 GPU, which has a 162% performance improvement over the previous generation and supports Kirin Gaming+ technology.

In Geekbench, the Kirin 810 offers 11% better single-core scores and 13% better multi-core scores compared to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 8nm SoC, says HUAWEI.

In GFXBench 1080p Mahattan test, the Kirin 810 with ARM Mali-G52 MP6 GPU offers 44% improved frame rate over Snapdragon 730 with Adreno 618 GPU and it is 15% better frame rate in GFXBench 1080p T-Rex test.

The new NPU uses HUAWEI Da Vinci Architecture based on Rubik’s Cube Quantitative Stereo Arithmetic Unit. It scored 32,280 points in AI benchmark, which is better than Snapdragon 855 and MediaTek Helio P90.

It offers improved gaming experience with system-level AI FM scheduling technology, GPU underlying driver upgrades, GPU load optimization and HD game effects optimization.  AI frequency modulation scheduling technology can learn frame rate, fluency and touch screen input changes in real time, predict mobile phone task load, dynamically sense performance bottlenecks in mobile phone use, and according perform frequency modulation scheduling, and improve prediction accuracy compared with traditional prediction methods.

GPU series optimization technology can reduce repeated instructions and GPU overload, and speed up the data transfer speed between CPU, GPU and memory. Gaming+ HD game special effects optimization can improve game quality, clarity, light and dark contrast, etc. This promise are closer to the real-world gaming experience.

New IVP + ISP offer flagship image processing capability with upgraded pixel processing unit, enhanced white balance algorithm, noise reduction in RAW image processing and more. It has also compared low-light image processing with the Snapdragon 730’s Spectra 350 ISP, and says that its IVP and IVP offer better details even in low lighting.

The Kirin 810 also supports Always-on Dual SIM Dual VoLTE support.  The Kirin 810 SoC is being rolled out starting from the Nova 5, and it should be seen on other HUAWEI and HONOR smartphone in the future. We should get to know the modem details soon.
