Google’s Area 120 incubator project has started teasing a new hyper-local social networking app Shoelace that aims to connect people based on shared interests around events and activities. You can create your own events and invite anyone to come along, and also find stuff to do and make plans with others.

- Find your crew — Meeting new people is more fun when you have more in common. So we make it easy to connect with others who have the same interests.
- Daily hand-picked activities — Every day we find interesting things happening around you, from festivals to fashion shows, so you don’t have to. Feeling inspired? You can also create your own activities and add them to the map.
- Easy as pie to make plans — It only takes a few taps to find stuff to do and coordinate with others. You can invite anyone to join, whether they use Shoelace or not.
Google has started testing the app in New York City, and said that testing this first in the city will help us determine what works and what doesn’t as it works to make the app available to more people. You can find out more details on the Shoelace website.
