Google released Android developer preview for Android ‘Q’ back in March, released Beta 2 in April, Android Q beta 3 in June during I/O, Beta 4 in June with final Android Q developer APIs (API level 29), the official API 29 SDK, and updated build tools for Android Studio and Beta 5 last month with improved gesture navigation and dark boot screen. Today it has released beta 6 for Pixel devices that brings further refinements to Gesture Navigation based on user feedback.
To ensure reliable and consistent operation, there’s a 200dp vertical app exclusion limit for the Back gesture, and adds a sensitivity preference setting for the Back gesture.
It has the latest Android Q system images for Pixel and Android Emulator, the final API 29 SDK, updated build tools for Android Studio, and the latest optimizations and bug fixes. It includes all the features, system behaviors, and developer APIs ready for the final platform, so it gives developers everything they need to get the apps ready. Like in previous Android releases, Android Q includes behavior changes to help improve performance, battery life, security, and privacy.
If you have already enrolled in the beta program, you will automatically get Android Q Beta 6 through over-the-air update. If you can’t wait, you can download factory and OTA images and flash it manually. Google already confirmed that final stable release will be available at the end of Q3 2019, but we can expect it in the next few weeks.
As usual, Essential has also rolled out Android Q beta 6 for the Essential Phone (PH-1), which is available through Essential Q Beta Android app.
