Xiaomi said to be working on four smartphones with 108MP Samsung sensor

Samsung introduced the new 108MP( 12032×9024 pixel resolution ) 1/1.33inch ISOCELL Bright HMX image sensor earlier last month and it has entered mass production too. Xiaomi also confirmed that this sensor will be first used by the company. On similar lines, now a new report suggests that Xiaomi is working on four new smartphones with 108MP primary rear camera and is likely to be the Bright HMX image sensor.

The Mi Gallery app in MIUI is adding support for four new devices codenamed “tucana“, “draco“, “umi” and “cmi“ and is also adding support for viewing images in 108MP resolution. However, these four devices could belong to both Xiaomi and Redmi brand too. Since the MIUI Gallery app is adding support for viewing photos in 108MP full resolution, we can expect it to be the Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX 108MP sensor.

In case you missed, Samsung 108MP 1/1.33-inch sensor with HMX can absorb more light in low-lit settings than smaller sensors and its pixel-merging Tetracell technology allows the sensor to imitate big-pixel sensors, producing brighter 27MP images. The mechanism uses a high ISO in darker settings that helps reduce noise, resulting in clearer pictures.

Other details including the key specifications are not known yet, but according to the reports, Mi Mix 4 is not said to be one among these four smartphones. We should know more information in the coming months.
