2020 iPhones said to sport redesigned metal frame similar to iPhone 4

Earlier this month, Apple unveiled the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max which are the successor to last year iPhone lineup. While the next iPhone launch is still a year away, rumours about 2020 iPhones have started to surface and new reports suggest that Apple will change its flagship iPhone design “significantly”.

According to a report from Ming-Chi-Kuo, 2020 iPhones are said to have a redesigned metal frame structure that was seen in iPhone 4 back in 2010. The new devices are said to sport “a more complex segmentation design, new trenching and injection molding procedures, and sapphire or glass cover assembly to protect the trench injection molding structure.”

The report also says that the use of sapphire or glass on the groove might protect the structure while the use of metal frame in next year’s iPhone might significantly increase the cost of the metal frame by up to 50 -60 per cent and glass case by up to 40 -50 per cent. The cost of the middle frame in the middle might increase by about 25 – 35 per cent and the cost of chassis might increase by about 20 – 30 per cent.

In related news, previous reports suggest that Apple might launch 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch iPhones with 5G support, OLED display in 2020. Another report suggests that 2020 iPhones might feature up to 120Hz switchable refresh rate display.

We should know more information on iPhones launching next year in the coming months.
