Vivo U20 Unboxing and First Impressions

Vivo, which made inroads to the Indian smartphone market with some fantastic offerings, has launched its much-expected U20 at an event today. Targeted at the mid-range segment, this device will compete against Realme 3 Pro and Redmi Note 8.

Box Contents

  • Vivo U20 smartphone 6GB + 64GB version in Blaze Blue color
  • 18W (9V-2A / 5V-2A) 2-pin charger
  • Micro USB Cable
  • Clear Protective Case
  • SIM Ejector tool
  • User manual and warranty information

Just like U10, this handset features notch display, triple rear cameras, and a circular fingerprint scanner. The device measures 8.89mm in thickness and weigh around 193 grams.

The right side of the phone has got volume and power buttons, while the left spine holds a sim-ejector tray, which also has a dedicated slot for microSD cards.  You won’t find anything at the top edge since the speaker grill, micro USB charging port, microphone, and 3.5mm audio socket are all placed at the bottom. Overall, Vivo U20 looks quite premium, but the phone is prone to fingerprints and smudge.

The Vivo’s U20 packs a 6.53-inch FHD+ Haloview display with a 90.3% screen-to-body ratio. The phone has minimal bezels to give it an immersive look and has Widevine L1 certification as well. In our brief stint, we found the color reproduction, text, and brightness are all quite good.

On the front, we have a 16MP selfie shooter, along with the earpiece and the usual set of sensors.

Under the hood, the Vivo U20 is powered by the Snapdragon 675 chipset, compared to Snapdragon 665 in the U10. In our case, it is paired with 6GB RAM + 64GB storage. During our time with the phone, there weren’t any lags or hangs. That said, it remains to be seen how the device performs under heavy usage while running graphics-intensive games or heavy apps.

As far as camera’s concerned, the Vivo U20 comes with triple camera setup, which comprises of 16MP(f/1.78) primary lens with Sony IMX499 sensor, an 8MP(f/2.2) ultrawide lens, and 2MP (f/2.4) macro lens. Check out some camera samples.

The Vivo U20 is shipped with Android 9-based FunTouchOS out of the box and houses a 5,000mAh battery with 18W Dual Engine fast charging. The Vivo U20 also comes in Racing Black color, is priced at Rs. 10,990 for the 4GB RAM with a 64GB storage version and the 6GB RAM with 128GB storage version costs Rs. 11,990. It will be available from Amazon.in and vivo.in starting from November 28th.
