Nokia ventured into the Smart TV segment with the launch of its first Smart TV in India last week in partnership with Flipkart. We got to check out the TV, and here are our first impressions. The TV comes only in Black color, and has minimal bezels, and in the box you get a remote control, metal base stand and screws, wall mount stand and screws, user manual, power cord and 2x AAA batteries for the remote.
The Nokia TV sports a 55-inch 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160 pixels) panel with 100% NTSC Color Gamut, 400 nits brightness and 1200:1 contrast ratio. Nokia says it has Intelligent Dimming that add depth to your perspective with darker shades and lighter tints for better contrast in every frame. The panel is bright and the viewing angles are good. It is powered by 1 GHz PureX quad-core Cortex A53 processor, Mali 450MP4 GPU, packs 2.25GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage.
We’ve tested with various 4K content on Netflix, and unsurprisingly, it was sharp and vivid as well, thanks to Dolby Vision support. It runs Android Pie with built-in Chromecast and comes pre-loaded with Netflix, YouTube and Google Play. There are different modes such as Vivid, Standard, User, Sports, Game modes that can be accessed from the menu button. Even though Amazon Prime Video is mentioned on Flipkart and Nokia website, we didn’t find it pre-loaded, and we couldn’t install the app from Google Play. You should be able to side-load the app, before the company pushes and update to bring the Prime Video support. It doesn’t support HDR in YouTube like some of the TVs.
The TV has Sound by JBL, Dolby Audio and DTS TruSurround. There are Standard, Music, Sport and Movie sound modes that can be accessed from the menu. It has 2 X 12W = 24W bottom firing speakers, which is good and volume level goes up to 100. Audio was good, but with full volume there is a bit of distortion.
The metal stand provided in the box is good, but it looks a bit awkward on the front, so it is better to wall mount the TV with the bundled wall mount stand, which is done by Flipkart for free in a couple days after the delivery of the TV.
Coming to the ports, the TV has lot of ports on the back there includes 1x RCA rear, 1 x Digital audio out or S/PDIF port, 2 x HDMI, 1 x Ethernet (RJ45) and AV ports.
You get 1 x USB (5V x 500 mA), 1 x HDMI and 1 USB (5V x 900mA) on the side. There is no mention of HDMI ARC on any of the HDMI ports. The TV has WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n (2.4GHz) and Bluetooth 5.0.
Coming to the Bluetooth remote, this looks like a traditional remote with a lot of buttons. It also has a microphone along with Google Assistant button for quick voice control. You can also see Netflix, Google Play, YouTube and File manager buttons, and the Amazon Prime Video button is notable missing since this is sold on Flipkart exclusively.
Priced at Rs. 41,999, the 55-inch 4K HDR TV from Nokia made by Flipkart is available from Flipkart as flash sale. The next sale is set for December 14th. The company at the launch event said that it will launch more models in different screen sizes soon.
