Google released the Android 10 operating system earlier last year which brought in several new features like Dark Mode, native 5G support, Focus mode, and more. It also introduced the new ‘Ambient Mode’ which essentially turns any android smartphone into a smart display. While it was available on a handful of Lenovo tablets and Nokia smartphones, ‘Ambient Mode’ is now rolling out to OnePlus devices as well.
OnePlus has partnered with Google to bring ‘Ambient Mode’ to a range of OnePlus devices and OnePlus says that this Google assistant powered Ambient Mode will be available on OnePlus 3 and above. For starters, ‘Ambient Mode’ will be triggered when a user puts their OnePlus device on charge, and they can access proactive information and suggestions on agenda, weather, reminders, and more from Google Assistant.

Apart from this, it can be used as an interface to control smart home devices, use it to display photos from Google Photos, control music playback, and more. In order to use this feature, users need to connect their OnePlus device to a charger, click the notification and follow the guidance to finish the setup process, or it can be done manually by navigating to Google App Settings > Assistant > Devices (Phone) and enabling it.
You might not be able to use this feature right away as OnePlus says that this is a staged rollout, which might take up to a week to a full release.
