GSMA cancels MWC Barcelona 2020 due to coronavirus concerns

Novel coronavirus outbreak has impacted a lot of people in China, and several companies already announced that are cancelling their major launch events at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2020 due to global concern regarding the coronavirus outbreak. Now the GSMA has announced that it has cancelled MWC Barcelona 2020 which was originally scheduled from February 24th to 27th.

In a statement it said that it was not possible for the GSMA to hold the event due to global concern regarding the coronavirus outbreak, travel concern and other circumstances.

This is the first time GSMA is canceling the yearly event since the first edition of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in 2006. It added that the Host City Parties respect and understand this decision and said that the GSMA and the Host City Parties will continue to be working in unison and supporting each other for MWC Barcelona 2021 and future editions.

Since the MWC even has been cancelled, all the companies that originally planned to introduce their new devices are expected to announce separate event sometime next month.
