Apple A14 5nm SoC will clock in excess of 3.1GHz: Report

Apple’s A series SoCs are known to be industry leading processors that power their mobile devices like the iPhone and iPad. Rumours have surfaced that claim that Apple’s next generation A14 processors will have clock speeds that exist 3.1GHz, which will make it the first mobile chip to cross 3GHz.

The rumour is based on a leaked Geekbench 5 score of an unknown Apple processor. It will be the first ever ARM based chip to have frequencies touching 3.1GHz, where the single core performance was recorded at 1658 points and multi-core came at 4612 points. This marks about a 25% single core improvement and 33% multi-core improvement over last years A13 Bionic chip, which recorded 1329 and 3468 points for single-core and multi-core performance respectively.

Apple will likely release the A14 chip later this year with the launch of the iPhone 12 and it will be built on TSMC’s new 5nm process node. At the moment, the A13 Bionic already is faster than current generation Qualcomm chips used in Android smartphones. With the A14, Apple will be looking to further that lead by launching its fastest iPhone ever.
