Facebook launches Messenger desktop app for Windows and macOS

It is video chatting season for everyone in quarantine and with Zoom rising to popularity, Facebook has decided to enter the fray with a desktop app for its Messenger, both for macOS and Windows. It features group videos calls, chat sync across, dark mode and more.

One of the difficulties with most group chatting apps is the complexity involved in just inviting everyone into the chat. With nearly everyone, including family and friends on Facebook, it is definitely easier to connect with them as they will likely have a Messenger account by default. And since it is a desktop app, you can continue running it in the background, while doing other things on your desktop.

There are push notifications support (which is not a surprise), and it can be muted or snoozed on a per chat basis. Chats will naturally be synced across all devices and the Facebook has also added support for Dark Mode, GIFs emoji.

Facebook Messenger Desktop is available for both Windows in the Microsoft Store and macOS from the App Store.
