YouTube changes view count numbering format to display in lakh and crore

YouTube has been introducing new features to its platform lately like UPI support, Dark Mode toggle, voice search for cast, and more. On similar lines now, YouTube has made a change in the view count numbering format displayed on videos.

The view count of YouTube videos on the Home Page and Trending section is now displayed in lakh and crore instead of million and billion, and it is not showing on channel pages yet. View count of videos that have crossed 1,00,000 are now displayed in lakh instead of hundred thousands (100K and so on) and videos that have crossed 1,00,00,000 views are displayed in crore instead of 10M and so on. For instance, the first video in the screenshot below has crossed 11,00,000 views and now it is displayed as ’11 lakh views’ instead of ‘1.1M views’.

The change in view count numbering format seems to be live for users globally and some users reported that changing the location to US or UK on YouTube will change the format as before. But, it did not work on our unit.

It is not clear if YouTube will change the default view count numbering format officially to English (India). We should know more information in the coming days.
