Samsung had announced a deeper partnership with Google during its Samsung Unpacked event in February 2020. As part of this partnership, Samsung would have better integration with some of Google’s services and today they announced that a Flex-optimised version of the YouTube app will be available for the Galaxy Z Flip.
One of the positions for the Galaxy Z Flip is halfway where the screen is 90° bent. In this position, it is ideal to keep the phone on the desk and view content, hands free. And Google made that possible with the YouTube app. When a user is watching a YouTube video with the screen folded 90°, the app will be split into two 4 inch halves. the top half will show the video while the bottom half will show the descriptions, comments and even allow the user to search for more videos.
YouTube will even adjust the position of the video with respect to the aspect ratio, that is, for square, it will fill up the whole screen, 16:9 videos will be placed in the centre and vertical videos will fill the screen accordingly. Along with this, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip users will have access to 4 months of free YouTube Premium.
The Flex mode-optimized YouTube app will be available for download for all Galaxy Z Flip users starting today from the Play Store.
