Zoom video conferencing app witnessed an increased demand lately with people working from home and at the same time, it has been in the news for privacy issues. The company has been working on improving the privacy controls and now it has announced a milestone of 90-day security plan with Zoom 5.0 update.
Zoom 5.0 which will be available soon to all users includes “robust security enhancements” and the company has listed the changes that it is bringing to the app. Firstly, on the network side, Zoom is upgrading to the AES 256-bit GCM encryption standard for increased protection of the meeting data in transit and the app will also support GCM encryption wherein a system-wide enablement will take place on May 30th, 2020.
Secondly, every paid Zoom Meeting and Webinar user will be able to customize which data centre regions their account can use for its real-time meeting traffic, but opting out of the default region is not possible.
Furthermore, on the user experience and controls side, Zoom is adding a new Security icon which will house all of the app’s security settings and hosts will be able to “Report a User” as well. Secure Account Contact Sharing will be introduced in this update and users can also opt to have their Zoom Chat notifications not show a snippet of their chat. Other changes include Dashboard enhancements, Waiting Room default-on, and Meeting password default-on.
Zoom 5.0 will be released this week and users can download it from Zoom’s official website.
