Twitter already offers a few ways to control the conversation surrounding a user’s tweet, like for example, the ability to hide replies to a tweet. Now Twitter has begun testing a new setting where the user will be able to control who can reply to their tweet.
During testing, users will be able to choose between three options before posting a tweet, which are:
- Everyone (Default setting for replies in twitter)
- People you follow
- Only people you mention
For the latter two options, the tweet will be labeled as such and the people who are not allowed to reply will still be able to see the tweet, but will have their reply button greyed out. While replies are blocked, everyone will still be able to Retweet, Retweet with Comment, and like these Tweets.
This setting is being introduced to prevent those scenarios like when unwanted people reply to a tweet that does not involve them and carry the conversation to a completely different tangent. Twitter is currently testing this setting with a limited number of user in iOS, Android and twitter.com.
The Twitter app is available for both iOS and Android users via the App Store and Play Store respectively.
