Google Assistant on KaiOS can now read and translate text in several Indian languages

KaiOS

The Google Assistant on KaiOS is an incredibly useful tool for users with feature phones, to get things done with just their voice. Google is now integrating features from Google Lens into the Assistant on KaiOS, specifically the ability to read out loud and translate real-life text using the phone’s camera.

To begin, the user needs to trigger the Assistant by long pressing the centre button from the phone’s home screen. When the Assistant is active, users can simply click the camera icon and point their phone at real-world text like a product label, street sign, or document. Google will then read the text out loud in the user’s preferred language, or have it translated to another language.

Users can also select a particular word, click the right soft key to have Google provide a definition of the selected word. This feature is currently supported with English and a few Indian languages like Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi and Bengali, with support for Kannada and Gujarati coming soon.
