Xiaomi and POCO phones in India to get an update to remove Mi Browser / Mint Browser

Xiaomi’s Mi and Redmi smartphones and POCO phones come pre-loaded with Mi Browser / Mi Browser Pro and some phones come with Mint Browser. This week the company has announced that it will roll out MIUI update for its smartphones in India to enable option to uninstall them as these apps have been blocked in the country as per interim order issued by the Government of India.

The Mi Browser Pro and Mint Browser have already been removed from the Play Store. This comes months after a report that said that Xiaomi was accused of collecting information even in incognito mode, and the company released an update to disable it.

Indian Government banned 59 apps, including Xiaomi’s Mi Community app back in June. Xiaomi doesn’t say why its browsers are blocked by the government, but it said that it is working with the government and privacy and security of the users are important.

Earlier this month Xiaomi said that all the blocked apps that are pre-installed will be removed with MIUI update soon.

The Government of India has issued an interim order for blocking the Mi Browser Pro/Mint Browser App. As a responsible corporate, we have complied with this order by disabling all online content feed including news service and games centre, until further notice from the Government.

Xiaomi will roll out MI UU update shortly for phones Mi Mix 2, Redmi 6, Redmi 6 Pro, Redmi 6A, Redmi 7, Redmi 7A, Redmi 8, Redmi 8A, Redmi 8A Dual, Redmi K20, Redmi K20 Pro, Redmi Y2, Redmi Y3, Redmi Note 5 Pro, Redmi Note 6 Pro, Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 7 Pro, Redmi Note 7S, Redmi Note 8, Redmi Note 8 Pro, Redmi Note 9 Pro, Redmi Note 9 Pro Max, Redmi Note 9, Poco F1, Poco X2, Poco M2 Pro to enable the users to uninstall the app in order to ensure complete compliance with the Government Order.

The privacy and security of our users is of utmost importance to us, and we assure you that Xiaomi has always, and will continue to adhere to all the data privacy and security requirements under Indian law.

We thank you for your incredible support and request you to be patient with us as we work with the Government Please stay safe!
