Xiaomi’s portfolio of TVs have grown significantly over the past few years, and the latest to join the family is the Mi TV 4A Horizon Edition that was launched on September 7th. The 4A Horizon Edition product line comes in two sizes: a 32-inch HD ready model and 43-inch FullHD model. Today, with us, we have the 43-inch variant of the Mi TV 4A Horizon Edition and here are our first impressions.
Our Mi TV 4A Horizon Edition comes with a 43-inch Full HD panel with an aspect ratio of 16:9 and a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, boasting viewing angles of 178°. The TV uses Xiaomi’s Vivid Picture Engine that tunes the display for an accurate colour calibration and reproduction, and deeper contrasts. Since it is a Horizon Edition model, the bezels are quite thin, giving the TV an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 95%. This did result in a more immersive experience when compared to the non-Horizon Edition model.
The back panel of the TV is made out of good quality plastic with no cause of concern there. This applies with the material choices for the rest of the TV too. Xiaomi includes a TV stand in the box with screws so you can quickly get set up and going. Having a Full HD resolution at 43 -inches is plenty enough and I found content to be sharp when viewed at a comfortable viewing distance.
The Vivid Picture Engine is supposed to be working at improving the panel’s colour reproduction and calibration. In my limited time with the display,, colours had a good amount of saturation and the blacks were nice and deep, giving the image a healthy amount of contrast. Overall, I was happy with the viewing experience of the Mi TV 4A Horizon Edition.
Powering the TV inside is a 1.5GHz quad-core Amlogic Cortex-A53 processor with 750MHz Mali-450 MP3 GPU. The TV comes with 8GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage and 1GB of DDR4 dual channel RAM. For ports, the TV has three HDMI (of which one supports ARC) ports, AV out, two USB 2.0 ports, one Ethernet port and an S/PDIF port. For speakers, Xiaomi has put in two 10W speakers with support DTS-HD, which got reasonably loud in our limited tests. Regarding connectivity, there is support for 2.4GHz WiFi and Bluetooth 4.2.
Like every other Xiaomi Mi TV, this one runs their PatchWall UI on top of the Android TV OS. It can curate content from 23 content partners, offers a universal search function across streaming platforms, a kids mode with parental controls and more. Underneath it, it is still running Android TV, giving you access to over 5000 apps from the Google Play Store, and it comes with Chromecast built-in. A neat feature that I liked about the TV is their Mi Quick Wake feature, which will turn on the TV in under 5 seconds, allowing you to quickly start your TV experience.
In the box, you also get a simple Xiaomi TV remote that is standard with every Mi TV. There are shortcuts to two streaming services – Netflix and Amazon Prime, and there is another shortcut to activate the Google Assistant quickly.
The Mi TV 4A Horizon Edition 43-inch FHD is priced at Rs. 23,499 and is available from Mi.com, Amazon.in and Mi Home Stores.
