Global wearables market shipped 125 million units in Q3 2020; growing 35.1% YoY: IDC

According to the IDC, the global wearables market recorded a significant amount of growth during the third quarter of 2020 – 35.1% YoY, totally shipping 125 million units. The growth has been attributed to the many seasonal offers, product launches, and the COVID-19 pandemic. The top 5 companies for the quarter were Apple, Xiaomi, HUAWEI, Samsung, Fitbit and boAt.

Apple witnessed a growth of nearly 38.6% with market share of 33.1%. Their most popular devices — the AirPods and Apple Watch Series, continued to be in strong demand during the pandemic, contributing to their market share. Xiaomi came in second place, shipping 17 million units, which calculates to a 26.4% YoY growth.

HUAWEI shipped 13.7 million units, taking third place with a 11% market share and in 4th place, Samsung shipped 11.2 million units, growing 32.2%. Tied at 5th place was both Fitbit and boAt, who each shipped 3.3 million units and a market share of 2.6% each.

Commenting on the report, Jitesh Ubrani, research manager for IDC Mobile Device Trackers said:

Many countries began easing restrictions and opening up their economies during the third quarter, which helped bolster outdoor activity as well as demand for wearables. Meanwhile, a broader range of price points from numerous vendors meant that there was something for everyone.
