Redmi 7, Redmi Y3, Redmi 6, and Redmi 6A won’t get MIUI 12 update, confirms Xiaomi

Xiaomi announced MIUI 12 Global along with the roll-out schedule back in May. As per the schedule, devices such as Redmi 7, Redmi Y3, Redmi 6, and Redmi 6A were kept in the second phase to receive MIUI 12 Global Stable update. Now, the company has confirmed that these devices will not be receiving MIUI 12 Global Stable update. The company has cited compatibility and performance issues behind taking the decision.

The company took it to the official telegram group to share the information with the users. The message says,

Hello Mi Fans,
Please note that the following device models originally included in MIUI 12 release schedule won’t be updated to MIUI 12 due to compatibility and performance issues.
Redmi Y3, Redmi 7, Redmi 6A, Redmi 6

This must be very disappointing news for Redmi 7 and Redmi Y3 users as these devices are barely 18-19 months old. To those unaware, Xiaomi had launched the Redmi 7, along with Redmi Y3 back in April last year. These devices booted MIUI 10.2 Global Stable on top of Android 9.0 (Pie). The company didn’t find these devices worthy to upgrade to Android 10, and now these devices won’t even receive MIUI version update.

Xiaomi has cited performance issues behind taking the decision but it is worth noting that Redmi Y2 has already received MIUI 12 update in some regions. To those unaware, Redmi Y2 packs Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC which is inferior in terms of performance compared to Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 that powers Redmi 7, and Redmi Y3.
