Xiaomi Mi QLED TV 4K 55″ First Impressions


We have seen a lot of 4K QLED TV launches this year, from OPPO Smart TV S1 to CompaQ’s 55-inch and 65-inch 4K TV’s. When you thought the device launches are over for the year, Xiaomi comes up with its Mi QLED TV 4K with a 55-inch bezel-less  display.

Priced at Rs. 54,999, Mi 4K QLED TV offers ultra-slim bezels offering 96% screen to body ratio. It features an Aluminum alloy frame with sandblast coating and carbon fiber finish at the back. 

Upfront, we have a 55-inch (3840 × 2160 pixels) 4K display that offers a 178-degree viewing angle, 100% NTSC Color Gamut, 95% DCPI-3 color gamut, Reality Flow, Auto Low Latency Mode, 5ms response time. Further, the TV supports HDR 10, HDR 10+, Dolby Vision, and Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) that enables the TV to display high-quality visuals and an extended colour gamut with a high-dynamic range. In the price range this offers a stunning picture quality.

Since it has a dedicated MEMC chip (Motion Estimation, Motion Compensation) the TV is ideal for watching sports and action-packed content since MEMC reduces motion blur, stuttering, and ghosting for unmatched clarity.

The new HDMI 2.1 via eARC supports higher bandwidth audio, Automatic Low Latency Mode (ALLM), and 5ms Input Lag @ 4K 60fps for the best gaming experience. Users can connect eARC-enabled soundbars to experience lossless audio, while the ALLM helps in reducing the latency, giving you a faster time. 

The TV has a 30 watt 6-speaker set-up equipped with 4 mid-range speakers and 2 tweeters that come in 0.5L boxes promises 233% more volume than a typical LED TV. Sound quality is good, and the audio doesn’t distort even in high volume.

The TV is powered by Quad-core MediaTek MT9611 (A55) processor with Mali G52 MP2 GPU. It is shipped with Android 10 with PatchWall. Right now, the company has partnered with 24 content providers for its PatchWall UI. The UI is neat and offers a dedicated tab for movies, TV shows, kids, sports, and the Discover tab. However, there are options to switch to native Android TV as well. Dolby Vision works in streaming apps like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video shows HDR.

The Mi Voice Remote has s dedicated hotkeys for Google Assistant, Netflix and Amazon Prime video.  It offers Mi Quick Mute (Double-tap volume down key to mute), Mi Quick Setting (Long press Mi button to access picture, sound, and more settings), and Mi Quick Wake (Turn on the TV in less than 5 sec) features.

The Mi QLED 4K TV supports various video codecs including AV1, H.265, H.264, H.263, VP8/VP9, MPEG1/2, and audio codecs like Audio codec, DTS-HD, FLAC, AAC, OGG, and ADPCM. In terms of ports, it has HDMI 2.1 (3), USB (2), Ethernet, AV, Optical, and an AUX port. 

The Mi QLED TV 4K 55″ will be available from Flipkart, mi.com, and Mi Home stores, starting from December 21st.
