Redmi 9 Power Unboxing and First Impressions

Xiaomi under its Redmi brand launched the Redmi 9 Power smartphone in India last week. It features a 6.53-inch FHD+ display, has quad rear cameras, and comes with a huge 6000mAh battery. Here we have the first impressions of the phone.

Box Contents

  • Redmi 9 Power 4GB + 64GB storage version in Blazing Blue colour
  • USB Type-C Cable
  • 2-pin 22.5W charger
  • SIM ejector tool
  • Clear protective case
  • User manual

The phone features a 6.53-inch (2340 × 1080 pixels) FHD+ IPS LCD Dot Drop screen which looks good, and is decent in outdoor conditions, but it could have been better. The screen has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Powered by Snapdragon 662  SoC with Adreno 610 GPU, the Redmi 9 Power packs 4GB of RAM with 64GB (UFS 2.1) / 128GB (UFS 2.2) storage options and runs Android 10 with MIUI 12 on top.

The phone has a 8MP camera on the front and the usual set of Ambient Light and Proximity Sensors. You can also see the earpiece on the top edge which also doubles up as a secondary loudspeaker.

It has dual SIM and a microSD card slot on the left arranged in a single tray. The volume rockers and the power button that also comes with a fingerprint scanner are present on the right. The 3.5mm audio jack is present on the top along with the IR sensor and a vent for the speaker. The primary loudspeaker speaker grill, USB Type-C port and the primary microphone are present on the bottom. It has Splash proof P2i coating and corrosion-proof ports.

On the back there are quad rear cameras that includes a 48-megapixel primary Samsung GM1 sensor with f/1.79 aperture, 8-megapixel 120° ultra-wide sensor with f/2.2 aperture, 2-megapixel macro and a 2-megapixel depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture and LED flash. The camera is good for the price, check out some camera samples below.

The phone has an Aura Power design with tiny patterns that offers a good grip and doesn’t attract fingerprints. Still you get a case in the box which is a welcome move. Even thought the phone weighs 198 grams, the weight distribution is good, so it doesn’t feel that heavy. The Redmi 9 Power has a huge 6000mAh battery, the biggest ever in Redmi phone and supports 18W charging via USB Type-C, even though it comes with a 22.5W charger in the box.

Priced at Rs. 10,999 for the 4GB RAM with 64GB storage version, and Rs. 11,999 for the 4GB RAM with 128GB storage version, it will be available from  Amazon.in, mi.com and Mi Home Stores, Mi Studios and Mi Stores starting from December 22nd.
